NYGKA in the News

NYGKA Community Outreach

One of the most important elements of karate training is the idea of service. Black belt students, in particular, are expected to understand the importance of giving back - both in the dojo and in our greater communities.

New York Goju Karate Association is proud of its work in the Rivertowns and beyond, and we hope you'll take a few moments to read more about some of the efforts we're involved with, and to see how you can help us make a difference.

Mission BullyProof in Local Schools
One of the most important gifts martial arts can give a young student is the confidence to navigate a bullying situation. Through our "Mission BullyProof" program, Shihan Jim Chillemi and the NYGKA staff are not only educating our karate students within the dojo, but also students in area elementary, middle, and high schools.

ECAD - Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities
An amazing new cause that NYGKA is proud to be involved with is ECAD, a not-for-profit that trains service dogs to work with disabled veterans. Through our 2014 "Kick-a-Thon," we were able to raise $7500 toward training these talented service dogs, and we're excited to continue this relationship in the future. Check out their website at the link above.

St. Jude's Children's Hospital
For the past several years, NYGKA has been proud to help raise money for a terrific cause - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We hope you will check out their website and consider supporting them as well.
